Our director, Suzette van der Heijden, is a finalist for the Women in Shipping & Maritime Logistics Award at the 2026 DCN Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards.

Daily Cargo News announced the finalists on 23 October. Suzette is one of ten women shortlisted in her category. The judges, a panel of industry leaders, worked through hundreds of nominations across all the awards.

About the DCN Awards

The DCN Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards are a national awards program run by Daily Cargo News. DCN has been reporting on Australian shipping and freight since 1891, and calls itself Australia’s oldest national daily news publication.

The awards are open to people and businesses right across the industry, from shipping lines and ports to customs brokers and freight forwarders. The Women in Shipping & Maritime Logistics Award is one of the categories for individuals. This year the awards night is being held in Brisbane for the first time.

40 years in freight

Suzette has 40 years of experience in freight forwarding. After moving to Australia from South Africa she set up Red Nav here in Wangara in November 2006.

A lot of our customers have never shipped anything before, and Suzette’s view has always been that it’s our job to make them feel safe. So we send photos of your cargo being loaded, we ring you if a vessel is running late, and you deal with a real person who knows your shipment.

The awards night

The winners and highly commended will be announced at the awards dinner at The Star in Brisbane on Thursday 26 November 2026. We’ll post the result here.
